Karachi: In the midst of a surge in street crime in the city, the discovery of target killing imports has been revealed by Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar. He has assigned the task to IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon to investigate the killings of 65 citizens related to street crime and target killings.

According to details, last year, the killings of more than 65 citizens in street crime imports have been reported in Karachi. However, investigations into the murder cases have revealed that the killings of 65 citizens did not occur during robbery incidents, but during the investigation, target killings were also uncovered in 18 incidents. Following this, Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has tasked IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon to investigate the killings of citizens in a better manner.

Provincial Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar informed Express News that street crime is a major issue in Karachi for which a policy has been formulated to curb it, and police have been tasked to crack down on both major and minor street criminals.

The Interior Minister of Sindh stated that investigations into the killings of citizens in street crime imports have revealed that out of the 48 murders, 18 killings were either target killings or the result of personal enmity, not resistance during street crime incidents.

After this revelation in the police investigation, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has tracked down a group that was involved in importing target killings amidst the surge in street crime imports. The CTD has taken both suspects into custody and during the investigation, Wajah and Husnain uncovered 13 incidents of target killings and injuring 11 citizens.

It was discovered during the investigation that this group consisted of 23 boys who would flee after committing target killings to give street crime a certain color. The suspects were very clever and would try to make target killings look like robbery incidents.

Upon contacting IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that street crime is a major issue in Karachi, and investigations into citizens’ killings related to target killing imports are being carried out in a better manner. The identification parade of the arrested suspects is also being conducted.

IG Sindh mentioned that while the killings of more than 65 citizens have been reported in robbery incidents, police have investigated all murder cases, filed 49 cases, and resolved 35 cases. In these cases, 15 suspects were killed and 53 were arrested. However, during the investigation of arrested suspects, it was revealed that some groups are importing target killings amidst the surge in street crime imports and are trying to give the color of street crime to the killings.

IG Sindh also informed that these groups have also been identified, and both the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) are working against them.

Regarding this matter, DIG CTD Asif Aijaz Sheikh stated that an international group of target killers is also active in Karachi and this group used to import target killings to avoid arrest, and to keep the police from being interested in arresting them such as major target killings do.

This group would send any case to jail immediately after any target killing incident and then operate from there, and after release, they would import target killings again. This group was not limited to a specific area in Karachi but spread throughout Karachi to spread lawlessness, arresting them is a significant success for Sindh Police.
