A rare stamp with an inverted image of a biplane, the ‘Inverted Jenny’ postage stamp, has been sold at a record price in New York. 76-year-old Charles Hack, who is from New York, obtained this ticket in an auction for a record amount of 20 million dollars.

The fundamental reason for the value of this stamp is its rarity and the fact that it was printed with the biplane Curtis JN-4 being upside down by mistake. After the stamp’s printing was discontinued, its value increased over time.

The Washington Post has designated this stamp as part of American history. According to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, William T. Robey bought the first sheet of 100 tickets of this stamp on the day of its issue, May 14, 1918. The value of each stamp was 0.24 dollars.

The ticket sold is in the cleanest condition and was located on the 49th position of the sheet.
