In a recent development, the Punjab government has made changes to the admission policy for government medical and dental colleges. Under the new policy, huffaz (memorizers) of the Holy Quran will no longer be granted additional marks during the admissions process.

The decision to revoke the additional marks for huffaz was taken in accordance with the directives of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). The PMDC issued these directives after the Supreme Court (SC) delivered its verdict on the matter, following which the Punjab health department implemented the new admission policy.

Prior to this change, huffaz of the Holy Quran were awarded an extra 20 marks during the admissions process for government medical and dental colleges.

This policy modification aims to ensure a fair and level playing field for all candidates applying for admission to these prestigious educational institutions. It aligns with the PMDC’s objective to maintain transparency and equity in the admissions process.

This new admission policy will come into effect this year and will apply to all prospective students seeking admission to government medical and dental colleges in Punjab.

By implementing this fair and transparent admission policy, the Punjab government aims to promote merit-based education while providing equal opportunities to all candidates.
