The protest was organized by the JI, and two prominent leaders from the JI were among those detained by the police.

During clashes between the police and protesters on Serena Chowk, JI Islamabad chief Nasrullah Randhawa, spokesperson Aamir Baloch, and Kashif Chaudhry were picked up by the police. The police fired into the air and used teargas to disperse the protesters. In response, the protesters threw stones at the police. The JI accused the police of trying to stop the protest, which was organized against Israel’s brutality in the Gaza strip.

JI leader Mian Aslam criticized the tactics of the Islamabad administration and stated that the Gaza March, planned for the following day in front of the US Embassy, would proceed as scheduled.

Protest outside UN consulate

JI chief Sirajul Haq announced a protest outside the United States embassy in Islamabad against Israel’s siege and relentless bombing of the Gaza Strip. He urged people to attend the Gaza march to show solidarity with the Palestinians.

Haq also stated that the United States is supporting Israel in subjecting the people of Palestine to violence, and it is up to the international community to play its role in stopping the Israeli atrocities. The protest outside the US embassy was scheduled for Sunday (October 29).

Haq invited all political parties to attend the march outside the US consulate in Islamabad to express solidarity with the Palestinians.

Gaza escalation

Gaza is being bombed by the occupation forces after the resistance group Hamas launched a surprise offensive, breaching Israel’s defense. The strip, home to 2.3 million people, has been put under siege by Israel. Local authorities have reported more than 7,000 killings of Palestinians, with about 40 percent of those killed being children, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. Thousands of buildings have been destroyed, and more than one million people have been displaced in the territory, which has been deprived of water, food, and other basic supplies.
