Police in Europe have been taking action to break up protests by pro-Palestinian activists on university campuses. In Berlin, police cleared a courtyard at Free University where activists had set up tents and formed human chains to protest against Israel’s war on Gaza. Similar actions were taken in Amsterdam, where about 140 activists were arrested as police dismantled an encampment at the University of Amsterdam. Encampments have also appeared in other European countries, including Finland, Denmark, Italy, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. The protests seem to be inspired by movements on US campuses. Demonstrators are calling for an end to the violence in Gaza and are demanding that universities cut ties with Israeli institutions. Protests have been largely peaceful, but authorities have intervened to restore order in some cases. Students are urged to engage in dialogue and respect campus rules while expressing their views.
