Pressure is mounting on British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to halt arms exports to Israel following the tragic deaths of seven aid workers in Gaza. Opposition parties and some MPs are calling for a suspension of arms sales, with the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party leading the charge. The Labour Party has also weighed in, stating that arms sales should be suspended if Israel is found to have violated international law. Despite growing calls for action, Sunak has stated that arms exports are kept under review and that the government follows strict regulations. The majority of Britons support a ban on weapon sales to Israel, according to a recent poll. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps has noted that military exports to Israel are relatively small compared to the country’s total global defence sales. Past conflicts have led to discussions about suspending arms exports to Israel, but no concrete action has been taken. Since 2008, the British government has sold over 570 million pounds worth of weapons and military components to Israel.
