Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the potential caretaker Prime Minister, has recently arrived in Karachi and has been in contact with his close friends in Islamabad. The former Finance Minister has been discussing the current political and economic situation with his aides, according to sources.

However, there seems to be a lack of consensus on Shaikh’s name for the caretaker Prime Ministership. The Secretary General of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, has denied any agreement on Shaikh’s nomination. Bokhari criticized Rana Sanaullah, the Interior Minister, for mentioning Shaikh’s name without proper authority.

Earlier, Rana Sanaullah had claimed that Shaikh was one of the candidates shortlisted for the caretaker Prime Minister position. Reports had previously stated that Shaikh’s name was among a list of five candidates finalized by ruling coalition parties. The list also included Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, a former Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Bokhari emphasized that the Interior Minister does not have the authority to comment on the names of potential caretaker Prime Minister candidates. He also addressed the need for a constitutional amendment to adjust the number of seats in the National Assembly based on the results of the recently approved digital census.

It should be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9.
