Lahore: There is a possibility of an extraordinary increase in intensity of heat in Punjab in the current month.
According to a spokesperson of the PDMA, the heat intensity will increase in the month of April and the temperature will be slightly higher than the average of the last 30 years. There are also possibilities of heatwaves in the rural areas of the province.
It has been predicted that the effects of heatwaves will be particularly severe in major cities. Strong winds, dusty storms, cyclonic rains, and hailstorms are also possible. Severe rainfall in northern Punjab could lead to flooding in rivers and streams.
There is also a higher possibility of landslides in mountainous regions. The irrigation department has been informed of the weather conditions. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners throughout Punjab have also been briefed on the situation.
PDMA’s DG, Irfan Ali Kathia, has directed the administration to remain alert on seasonal fluctuations. He said that strong coordination between departments should be ensured. All relevant agencies should prepare for weather changes and take precautionary measures. It is time to take precautions to prevent natural disasters.
