PM Kakar Urges Accountability for Israel’s Actions in Gaza at ECO Summit 2023

Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has called for Israel to be held accountable for its aggression in the besieged Gaza Strip. During the 16th Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Summit in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, he condemned Israel’s “incessant and lethal” bombardment in Gaza as “deplorable.”

Prime Minister Kakar urged ECO member states to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, provide humanitarian assistance, and rally efforts to hold Israel accountable. He emphasized the need to address the situation according to relevant UNSC and OIC resolutions.

Kakar also condemned the bombing of hospitals and the killing of innocent civilians in Gaza. He highlighted that Pakistan strongly condemned these actions and stressed the need for a humanitarian corridor to assist the defenseless people of Palestine. Additionally, he addressed the Indian atrocities inflicted on the people of held Kashmir.

During the summit, Kakar stressed the importance of realizing the goals and objectives of the ECO to achieve economic and peace dividends in the region. He also pledged to address global issues like Islamophobia and climate change with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

The prime minister’s visit to Uzbekistan also included meetings with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where they discussed the need for finalizing a “Strategic Partnership Agreement” and promoting strong intra-regional connectivity through air, road, and railway transport. They reaffirmed their commitment to the early completion of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project, expected to be completed by 2027.
