The financial crisis at Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) continues to worsen as the national flag carrier fails to clear its salary dues. The airline’s spokesperson has stated that the caretaker federal government has promised to disburse funds to cover the pending salaries of PIA employees. However, despite this assurance, the spokesperson added that it may take up to a week for the salaries to be disbursed to the employees.

It is worth noting that this is not the first financial setback faced by PIA in recent months. In August, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) froze 26 bank accounts of PIA due to non-payment of over Rs 8 billion in taxes. Despite the airline’s promise to pay Rs 2 billion in dues under the Federal Excise Duty, it failed to fulfill this commitment, leading to the account freeze.

Despite the frozen bank accounts, the PIA spokesperson has clarified that this situation will not disrupt the airline’s flight operations. However, for the employees who are eagerly waiting for their salaries, it remains a matter of concern and uncertainty.

The current financial crisis at PIA has not only affected the airline’s reputation but has also led to international authorities rejecting collaboration opportunities. It is crucial for the airline to address these financial challenges promptly to ensure the well-being of its employees and secure its future in the aviation industry.

Stay tuned for further updates on PIA’s ongoing financial situation as they become available.
