The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has declared a nationwide black day to protest the lack of arrests in the murder of journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar. Black flags will be hoisted at press clubs across Pakistan in solidarity.

On November 20, PFUJ organized protest rallies and demonstrations across the country to demand justice for Jan Mohammad Mehr.

In Karachi, journalists from Sindh gathered at Karachi Press Club and marched towards the CM House to express their frustration over the authorities’ failure to arrest the main culprit, even after three months.

The demonstrators voiced their grievances against the caretaker Sindh government and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.

The PFUJ’s Federal Executive Committee (FEC) had previously decided to stage nationwide protests against the murder of Jan Mohammad Mehr during a meeting held in Abbottabad from November 3 to 5. An action committee was also formed in Sindh under the leadership of PFUJ’s former secretary general, Mazhar Abbas.

The senior journalist and Kawish Television Network (KTN) Sukkur bureau chief was fatally attacked by unidentified assailants on August 13. The attackers, riding a motorcycle, opened fire at Mahar as he left his office in Sukkur.
