An FIR has been registered by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) against Perviaz Elahi for illegally increasing the crushing capacity of Rahim Yar Khan Sugar Mills.

Perviaz Elahi, the former Punjab CM, appeared before Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid in the sessions court under tight security.

During the hearing, the investigating officer (IO) requested a 14-day physical remand of Pervaiz Elahi for interrogation. The IO stated that the former CM violated the rules by increasing the crushing capacity of the sugar mills and exceeded his authority.

However, Elahi’s lawyer opposed the request, claiming that his client was being politically targeted. Advocate Amir Saeed stated that Parvez Elahi had no involvement in the case and demanded his discharge as the president of PTI.

The lawyer also mentioned that a government committee had decided to increase the quota of sugar mills.

After considering arguments from both sides, Judge Imran Abid rejected ACE’s request for physical remand and discharged Perviaz Elahi in the case.

In the written order, the court stated that the FIR against Elahi did not contain any specific allegations of bribery.

The court highlighted that a committee had made the decision to enhance the crushing capabilities of sugar mills in Rahim Yar Khan.

However, the order clarified that Elahi’s discharge did not mean the acquittal or cancellation of the FIR. It added that the investigation of the case would continue and the IO could re-arrest the discharged accused based on further investigation.
