This comes after it was recently revealed that he had previously kept hospital stays and a cancer diagnosis secret from President Joe Biden. Austin had undergone treatment for prostate cancer in December and January, and Deputy Secretary of Defence Kathleen Hicks has assumed his duties. The Pentagon has not yet indicated how long Austin will remain in the hospital, but his doctors have stated that the bladder issue is not expected to affect his overall recovery from cancer.
