The provincial authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have identified and encouraged undocumented Afghan migrants to voluntarily repatriate to their country, despite the expiry of the Oct 31 deadline. While 19 out of 36 districts in KP no longer have undocumented foreigners, there are still 18,665 “illegal aliens” residing in the remaining districts, primarily Peshawar. The government has directed officials not to bother undocumented migrants, but to persuade them to leave voluntarily, even providing transportation for their repatriation. On Saturday, both undocumented migrants and those with Proof of Registration (PoR) cards were sent to Peshawar’s transit point for repatriation, with a total of 567 illegal migrants and 59 from Punjab repatriated via the Torkham border crossing. In total, 218,481 members of 19,082 Afghan families have returned to their country via the Torkham border.
