In a recent hearing session at the Sindh High Court (SHC), one of the seven ‘missing persons’, Mohammad Javaid Khan, returned after six years of disappearance. The seven individuals who went missing were allegedly associated with the political group Muttahida Qaumi Movement London (MQM-L).

During the hearing, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto questioned Mohammad Javaid about his whereabouts during the period of his disappearance. In response, Mohammad Javaid stated that he was kept in an unknown location and was blindfolded.

Justice Phulpoto urged Mohammad Javaid to provide more information to help in the recovery of the other missing individuals. Another judge, Justice Kausar Sultana, also asked if Mohammad Javaid had been interrogated during his captivity.

Mohammad Javaid mentioned that he was unaware of the location where he was held for the past six years due to being blindfolded. He claimed that he was detained because of his affiliation with the political party Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P).

During the hearing, Mohammad Javaid’s mother expressed her joy at his return after six years. She requested the court to unblock her son’s National Identity Card (NIC), which had been blocked, and also requested the reinstatement of his job at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

In response to her plea, the court ordered the restoration of Mohammad Javaid Khan’s blocked identity card and directed the Water Board to review the legality of his employment.

This is a significant development for the families of the missing persons and highlights the need for better measures to address such cases in Pakistan.
