Pakistan Caretaker Prime Minister Assumes Office and Seeks Briefings from Ministries

After assuming office, the new caretaker prime minister of Pakistan, Anwarul Haq Kakar, has immediately begun his duties by seeking a detailed briefing from all ministries on important matters.

Prior to his official responsibilities, the caretaker PM was presented with a guard of honour in a ceremony at the Prime Minister House.

A contingent of Pakistan’s armed forces, dressed smartly, presented the guard of honour and the national anthem was played during the ceremony.

Outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly welcomed the new prime minister upon his arrival at the Prime Minister House.

During his visit, the caretaker PM also met with the officers and staff of the Prime Minister House to familiarize himself with the team.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Anwarul Haq Kakar on assuming office and expressed his best wishes for him.

In addition, Anwarul Haq Kakar held meetings with former provincial minister Mir Asim Kurd Gello and a delegation from Balochistan, including Senator Sarfraz Bugti and Mir Khalid Lango, who conveyed their congratulations and best wishes to the new prime minister.

Oath of Office

Earlier in the day, Anwarul Haq Kakar took the oath as the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan in a ceremony at the President House, administered by President Dr. Arif Alvi.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by outgoing prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi, Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Azam Khan, and leading politicians from various political parties.

Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and other high-ranking officials were also present during the ceremony.

Introduction to Anwarul Haq Kakar

Senator Anwar ul Haq Kakar, the nominated caretaker prime minister of Pakistan, is a well-known political figure from Balochistan and a member of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Kakar was elected to the Senate in 2018 and has been actively involved in politics in Balochistan. He has also served as the parliamentary leader for the Balochistan Awami Party within the Senate.

Anwarul Haq Kakar has prior experience working as the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, as well as being a member of the Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology.
