On New Year’s Eve in Karachi, an infant girl tragically died and 32 others were injured due to celebratory aerial firing. A total of 75 suspects were arrested and booked for this dangerous and illegal activity. The ban on carrying/displaying of arms and fireworks was imposed for two days, but it did not prevent the tragic incident.
The three-year-old girl was critically injured by a bullet to the chest and later died during treatment. Police officers expressed surprise at the bullet’s trajectory and the circumstances of her death. In addition to the tragic death of the infant, numerous individuals were also injured from aerial firing in different districts of Karachi.
The police took action by arresting and booking suspects for attempted murder and violation of arms laws. They also seized a variety of weapons and ammunition from the suspects. Further efforts to apprehend more suspects were ongoing.
The authorities are working to address this reckless and dangerous behavior, but the tragic death of the infant girl serves as a grave reminder of the dangers of celebratory aerial firing.
