New Delimitations Essential for General Elections: ECP Legal Team

The legal team of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has emphasized the need for new delimitations for the upcoming general elections. The recommendation was made during a crucial session chaired by the chief election commissioner (CEC) and attended by four ECP members, the secretary, and the legal team.

The ECP’s legal team considers the completion of new delimitations as inevitable to ensure fair and transparent elections.

The commission is expected to make a decision soon on whether to initiate the process of new delimitations.

On August 7, the federal government officially notified the results of the seventh census following approval from the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

The official notification indicates that Pakistan’s population has now exceeded 241 million, with 147.7 million residing in rural areas and 93.7 million in urban areas.

As per the digital census results, Punjab’s population has reached 127.7 million, Sindh’s population stands at 55.6 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s population has reached 40.8 million, Balochistan’s population stands at 14.8 million, and Islamabad’s population has reached 2.36 million.

Based on these figures, the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased by 2.38 percent, Punjab by 2.53 percent, Sindh by 2.57 percent, and Balochistan by 3.2 percent.
