Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would be making his return to Pakistan in October. Shehbaz Sharif conveyed this during a media interaction in London together with Nawaz Sharif.

Shehbaz Sharif arrived at Heathrow earlier this week to discuss important political developments and finalize a date for Nawaz Sharif’s return with his elder brother.

In 2019, Nawaz Sharif left the country for medical treatment after being convicted in a corruption case. Despite facing multiple cases in Pakistan, he has not returned since then.

Reports of Nawaz Sharif’s imminent return have been circulating for some time, but no official announcement had been made by the PML-N leader. Earlier this month, some PML-N leaders claimed that Nawaz Sharif would be returning to Pakistan “next month.”

During the media interaction in London, Shehbaz Sharif addressed the ongoing legal issues surrounding Nawaz Sharif, stating, “Nawaz Sharif will, god willing, come to Pakistan and face the law, there are no two opinions on it.”

Regarding the upcoming elections, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that his party had dissolved assemblies in line with the Constitution and pledged to fully cooperate with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections. He also stressed the importance of transparent accountability “across the board” to move the country forward.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment he and his brother received during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tenure, stating that “fake cases” were made against them. He also criticized a Supreme Court judge for showing concern towards PTI chief Imran Khan while ignoring similar sentiments for his brother and niece.

Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan in October will mark an important development in the political landscape as parties prepare for the upcoming general election.
