Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur has cautioned against engaging in a “witch-hunt” following their defeat to South Africa in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. This loss puts Pakistan’s World Cup dream in jeopardy, as they now have to win their remaining three matches and rely on other results to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Despite the team’s struggles, Arthur defended the coaching staff, players, and management, highlighting their sincere efforts. Pakistan, previously ranked as the top ODI team globally, suffered defeats against India, Australia, and Afghanistan before their loss to South Africa. In the match against South Africa, Pakistan scored 270 runs, with Saud Shakeel and Babar Azam contributing significantly. However, South Africa’s tailenders, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, secured a one-wicket victory. Arthur acknowledged that Pakistan’s performance has been subpar in the tournament, particularly in bowling and fielding. He emphasized the need for improvement and highlighted the players’ fighting spirit despite the disappointment.
