Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party of the Planning Commission has approved the establishment of 6 additional schools in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. According to details, the Planning Commission’s Central Development Working Party agreed at a meeting of the Federal Ministry of Education to support the best and unique educational initiatives in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The Planning Commission has prepared a framework for ongoing projects in newly added districts of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in view of the educational emergency proposed by the Ministry of Education.

The meeting approved the establishment of three schools each in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, with the decision also made that the government will consult with regional officials on the location of the schools. It was agreed that the Ministry of Education will ensure the presence of regional governments in their Project Monitoring Unit for effective oversight, and after completion of the project, the schools will be handed over to local governments to be run like existing cadet colleges, where poor, talented, and intelligent students will be enrolled.

Secretary Education Mahiuddin Wani has said that this initiative will be a good step forward for these regions, and detailed design plans will be presented in the coming months before the Planning Commission.
