The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notices to the deputy commissioner and police after a petition was filed challenging the detention of PTI Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Marwat was arrested outside the LHC and footage shared by the PTI showed police dragging him as lawyers tried to intervene. The arrest was criticized by PTI leaders and lawyers’ bodies, with the caretaker government being held responsible for facilitating “unabated lawlessness”. Marwat’s brother filed a petition seeking the quashing of his detention orders, declaring the arrest as illegal and politically motivated. The LHC Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhary issued notices and sought responses from the respondents in the case. Marwat has been in the spotlight recently due to his fiery addresses at PTI events, and has faced multiple cases and accusations, including instigating the public against state institutions through social media.
