PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid’s judicial remand in a case related to her alleged incendiary speeches at Lahore’s Sherpao Bridge on May 9 has been extended by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) until November 27. This was part of riots following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan. Khan’s detainment saw widespread violence and attacks on military installations, prompting a harsh crackdown on his party by the state. Although Khan was released, many PTI workers, including top leadership, still face serious charges. Lahore police recently initiated a new crackdown on PTI workers and activists, targeting 884 individuals, including Rashid and other prominent leaders. During the hearing, Rashid expressed the PTI’s desire to contest the upcoming elections and discussed the ongoing cases against her and her colleagues. The court ordered Rashid and other PTI leaders to appear in court on November 24. Rashid, speaking to the media after the hearing, expressed her intentions to contest against PML-N suporemo Nawaz Sharif and his brother, former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while also lamenting the unfinished challans against her. She also highlighted the plight of PTI women workers who have been in jail for several months.
