Hamas and Israel have released more captives and prisoners as part of a shakey truce that has been holding for five days. On Tuesday, Israel announced that 10 of its citizens and two Thai nationals were released by Hamas and returned to Israel, bringing the total number of freed captives to 86 out of the 240 people that were taken to the Gaza Strip after Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel. In response, Israel released 30 Palestinians from its jails, bringing the total number of freed prisoners to 180. Among the released Palestinians were 15 children and 15 women. Qatar has announced an agreement to extend the truce for two more days, during which further prisoner exchanges will take place. The truce is set to end after one more exchange on Wednesday night. US and Israeli intelligence agency leaders are in Qatar to discuss extending the truce and releasing more prisoners, as Qatar is a key mediator with Hamas.
