Instructions to ensure reduction in transportation fares by Punjab Chief Minister

Lahore: After a decrease in petrol prices, the Punjab Chief Minister has directed to ensure a reduction in transportation fares. According to details, an important meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review matters related to the transport department. During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz instructed that the administration should ensure a reduction in public transport fares and income, as the decrease in petroleum prices directly benefits the public, since transportation fares affect the prices of all commodities including food and beverages. She stated that reducing transportation fares will provide relief to the public.

In the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif requested a 5-year plan for transportation from one end to the other in Lahore and also directed to consult the best international consultants for the Purple and Blue Line trains in Lahore. Detailed briefing was provided to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif about 630 eco-friendly buses across the province, including the introduction of 200 eco-friendly diesel high-capacity buses for Lahore. In Lahore, 100 electric buses will be operated as a pilot project, while Multan will receive 100, Rawalpindi 78, Bahawalpur 42, and Faisalabad 110 eco-friendly buses.

Secretary Transport Ahmed Javaid Qazi briefed about the Bike Project for students and informed that after the approval of the Chief Minister’s Youth Initiative Bike scheme, the scrutinizing has started.

The meeting was attended by the Information Minister Azmi Zahid Bokhari, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, Chief Secretary, Secretary Transport, Secretary Higher Education, Lahore Commissioner, DG LDA, and other authorities.
