A news anchor, Imran Riaz, was sent to jail by a Lahore district and sessions court on Friday in a corruption case. He was arrested from his home and accused of securing a contract at an inflated price. Riaz was presented before a Judicial Magistrate and his lawyers argued that the case against him was false and without evidence. Despite their arguments, the court rejected the plea for his physical remand and sent him to jail on judicial remand for 14 days. The PTI decried the arrest and called for Riaz’s release. This is not the first time Riaz has faced legal issues, as he was arrested in 2023 and allegedly abducted, leading to months of uncertainty before his eventual release. PTI leader Omar Ayub Khan condemned his arrest, stating that there is no “rule of law” in Pakistan.
