Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were indicted in the Toshakhana reference by an Islamabad accountability court. Last year, Imran was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a separate Toshakhana case, filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan for not mentioning details of state gifts in his tax declarations. The sentence was later set aside, and a fresh reference was filed against Imran and his wife by the National Accountability Bureau for retaining a jewelry set from the Saudi crown prince against an undervalued assessment. During the hearing, Imran denied the charges and accused the witnesses of being forced to testify against him. The judge adjourned the hearing and directed the NAB to produce the witnesses at the next proceedings. The court also rejected Imran’s post-arrest bails in both the Toshakhana and £190m references. Earlier in the day, a Lahore anti-terrorism court extended the pre-arrest bails of former PTI leader Asad Umar and Imran’s sisters in multiple cases pertaining to the May 9 riots. Imran’s sisters alleged that the end of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s lifetime disqualification was part of the “London plan” and claimed that an “agreement” was made in London, where Nawaz spent nearly four years in self-exile, and the current scenario was playing out according to a script.
