American supermodel Gigi Hadid, who has Palestinian roots, recently addressed the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, condemning the harm caused to innocent civilians. In an Instagram post, Hadid expressed her condolences to both Jews and Palestinians and called for an end to the violence.
As the daughter of Mohamed Hadid, an American-Palestinian real estate developer, the 28-year-old model has consistently shown support for the “Free Palestine” movement. In her heartfelt statement, she stated, “My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy and every day that innocent lives are taken by this conflict – too many of which are children.”
Hadid emphasized her empathy for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation, while also emphasizing her responsibility towards her Jewish friends. She clarified that her hopes and dreams for Palestinians do not involve any harm towards Jewish individuals. She urged for unity and understanding, stating, “The terrorizing of innocent people is not in alignment with and does not benefit the ‘Free Palestine’ movement. It perpetuates a cycle of back-and-forth retaliation that no innocent civilian deserves to be a casualty of.”
Furthermore, Hadid emphasized that being Pro-Palestine does not equate to being antisemitic. She acknowledged the complexity of the situation and extended her love and support to anyone who is affected by the ongoing conflict, regardless of their background or beliefs. Meanwhile, the death toll in Israel as a result of Hamas attacks has risen to 1,200, according to the Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson. The Gaza Strip continues to face immense destruction due to Israeli airstrikes, as a response to the weekend attack by Hamas militants.
