Karachi: The Islamabad High Court has postponed the hearing on a request to initiate proceedings against retired General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa and General (R) Faiz Hameed, along with two journalists, for breaking legal barriers post-retirement, defaming, and making false statements about various events. The petitioner has been directed to keep the request for action by the FIA on record.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court heard the request of citizen Aatif Ali. Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner and stated that the FIA has been bound to inquire into the request. The Chief Justice remarked that if something comes up in the request, they will take action.
The Deputy Attorney General informed the court that despite no request being received by the FIA for action against retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa, General Faiz Hameed, and the journalists, Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi insisted that the request was received at the FIA DG office.
Advocate Hafiz Arafat appeared on behalf of the journalist, stating that no request was submitted to the FIA, and the copy was not attached with the petition. He expressed confusion over how the petition came up for hearing in court. The Chief Justice stated that this information was not disclosed earlier, and since it has been revealed now, they will give them a chance.
The court instructed the petitioner’s lawyer to provide a copy of the relevant request so that the hearing can be postponed.
