Former Supreme Court judge Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has stated that the Supreme Judicial Council has no authority to continue with any proceedings against him following his resignation. In a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and other top court judges, he criticized the treatment he received from the SJC as “disgraceful.” Despite the council’s rejection of his request to halt the proceedings, Naqvi resigned citing public knowledge and public record as the reason. However, the SJC proceeded with the inquiry, even though it is waiting for the outcome of an appeal related to the jurisdiction over retired or resigned judges. Naqvi stated that the SJC was acting beyond its jurisdiction, and he withdrew the power of attorney from his representative before the council.
