Two diplomats from the United Kingdom and the United States underscored the importance of holding fair elections on February 8 in meetings with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday. The general elections in the country are set for a month later. Concerns and accusations about the lack of a level playing field in the political arena have marred the run-up to the polls. British High Commissioner Jane Marriott expressed similar worries in a meeting with Nawaz in Lahore, emphasizing the critical nature of inclusive elections on February 8 for Pakistan’s future. The two also discussed promoting trade and investment relations between the UK and Pakistan. Meanwhile, US Ambassador in Pakistan Donald Blome visited Bilawal at Zardari House in Islamabad to discuss current political issues and the importance of free, fair, and inclusive elections. The two also talked about the strength of the US-Pakistan trade and investment relationship, as well as ways to promote bilateral and trade relations between the US and Pakistan.
