A blast at the Guddu Thermal Power Plant caused power outages in several towns and cities across Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan due to technical faults exacerbated by dense fog. The blast at the power plant in the Guddu town of Sindh’s Kashmore district led to a fire and the tripping of three 500-kilovolt high transmission lines within the switchyard, affecting many cities. Firefighting teams were able to control the blaze and technical teams immediately started repair work to restore power. Some areas saw partial restoration of power 12 hours later, with full restoration expected once repairs were completed. The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) spokesman cited dense fog as the cause of the tripped transmission lines and explained the urgent replacement of the damaged part at the switchyard.
