Maulana Fazlur Rehman plans to discuss the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group during his upcoming visit to Afghanistan. The JUI-F chief has received an invitation from the Afghan interim government to visit the country, marking his first visit since the Taliban takeover. Rehman stated that he plans to meet with Taliban supreme leader Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada during his trip. He also mentioned that he would consider Pakistan and Afghanistan’s interests during his visit. Rehman’s visit comes at a time when relations between the two countries have been strained due to an increase in terrorist attacks, many of which have been attributed to TTP and other groups. Furthermore, a report by the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies stated that over 82% of terrorism-related deaths in 2023 were caused by major groups, including the TTP and its subsidiaries.
