Fazlur Rehman, the JUI-F chief, recently clarified his remarks about the role of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, the former ISI chief, in the no-confidence vote against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the PTI government. He acknowledged that he had mistakenly mentioned Faiz’s name and Gen Faiz was not involved in the incident. Fazl also expressed his belief that political instability was a joint responsibility of the former generals and their regime during the PTI government. Despite being challenged to make allegations under oath, Fazl questioned the significance of such an act, considering the military’s long history of political interference. He also expressed doubt as to the possibility of a fair investigation and denounced the military’s involvement in political affairs. The PML-N leader, Malik Ahmad Khan, also contradicted Fazl’s claims and stated that during a meeting Gen Bajwa had actually urged the then-opposition to withdraw the vote of no-confidence.
