Former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has been granted two-day physical remand by an Islamabad court after his arrest. He was brought to court in an armoured vehicle under tight security, with footage showing him handcuffed and his face covered. Fawad was arrested in connection with a case registered in August 2022, under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. Along with Fawad, several other PTI leaders and over 1,000 unidentified people were also booked in the FIR. Fawad’s brother and wife were present in court, and he requested permission to meet his lawyer, which was granted. The police contended that Fawad had promised a job to a citizen in exchange for money but never followed through, and when the complainant asked for his money back, Fawad threatened him. Fawad, on the other hand, claimed to be a former federal minister and a serving Supreme Court lawyer, and requested access to a doctor for health issues. The court granted police two-day remand of Fawad. Fawad had previously left the PTI after the arrest of Imran Khan and was seen at the launch ceremony of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) led by Jahangir Khan Tareen in June. However, it is unclear whether he is officially a part of the IPP.
