The head of churches in Jerusalem expressed concern in a Christmas message, saying that hope seems unattainable for Gazans. Khalil Sayegh, living in the United States, anxiously awaited news about his family in Gaza who had sought refuge in churches to escape the Israel-Hamas war. He learned that his father had died due to lack of medical care, leaving him shattered. His family is among the 1.9 million people displaced in the territory.
