Migrants and refugees, as well as human trafficking networks, often use social media to navigate their way across borders. Social media platforms have become essential tools for migrants and refugees, serving as lifelines rather than just avenues for communication. While some use social media to document their experiences and seek help in navigating borders, criminal organizations use these platforms to advertise dangerous crossings and lure victims. In this episode, we explore the impact of social media on migrant journeys with presenter Myriam Francois and guests Carlos Eduardo Espina, an immigrant rights activist and law student, Zoe Gardner, an independent migration policy researcher and advocate, and Femi Nylander, a poet, actor, filmmaker, and author.
