Islamabad: The federal government has formed an implementation committee to implement the FBR restructuring. The committee has been instructed to prepare policy on FBR restructuring within 72 hours, according to the notification issued by the Revenue Division, Dr. Shamsuddin Akhtar, will chair the 8-member Implementation and Asset Distribution Committee Secretary, while Sajid Qazi will be included as the committee’s secretary, other committee members include Secretary Law, Dr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan, Private Consultant Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Member Administration FBR Nadim Rizvi, Member Legal Customs Mukarram Jah Ansari, and Member Inland Revenue Policy Ofaq Qureshi have been included while 2 sub-committees have also been formed for amendments in laws and distribution of assets.
The committee’s first meeting was held during the week under the chairmanship of Dr. Shamsuddin Akhtar, in which Dr. Shamsuddin Akhtar presented his project for FBR restructuring, The sub-committee meeting regarding the distribution of assets also took place during the week.
It may be recalled that the government has already approved the FBR restructuring project three days ago, following which, talking to Express Tribune, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar had said, due to the government’s decision of FBR restructuring the Election Commission had prevented caretaker Prime Minister from any such decision beyond its authority. The government officials say that the Special Investment Facilitation Council has complete support for the decisions of the cabinet, however, only the committee will prepare the proposals on law-making matters and their approval will be obtained from the new government’s Parliament. Notification states that the Finance Minister will seek the support of all prominent political parties for the economic team so that the approval of the restructuring can be made smooth while it instructed the legal sub-committee to prepare a legal package for the required legal amendments for the restructuring within 4 days and present it to the central committee. The central committee will approve it within 2 days, after which the Law Division will approve it within a day and it will be presented to the federal cabinet within a day.
