The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to consider a petition next week that calls for the removal of certain members of the federal cabinet who are deemed “biased”. The aim is to ensure the upcoming general elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

The petitioner, Advocate Syed Azizud Din Kaka Khel, has specifically named caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and a few other cabinet members, including Ahad Cheema, Fawad Hasan Fawad, and former principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Syed Toqeer Hussain. The petition argues that their presence in the caretaker government impedes the transparency of the elections.

In order to ensure a transparent election, the petition calls for the removal of these individuals from their positions.

The ECP has also scheduled the hearing of several other petitions against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party and its chairman, Imran Khan. One of the petitions, filed by Khalid Mehmood, aims to have Imran Khan’s name removed as the party chairman/head from the Election Commission’s records.

Another petition filed by Khalid Mehmood seeks necessary action against the PTI, alleging that the party is still receiving prohibited funds from foreign entities. Similarly, a petition filed by Muhammad Awn Saqlain calls for the PTI to be declared ineligible to obtain an election symbol.

Additionally, on the same day, there is a hearing scheduled for the reply to a show-cause notice and the personal appearance of Fawad Chaudhry in a contempt of the Election Commission case.

The ECP’s consideration of these petitions is crucial for ensuring the fairness and impartiality of the upcoming general elections in Pakistan.
