ECC Gives Approval for GB Wheat Subsidy and Cuts Ministries’ Budgets – Business

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet agreed to provide subsidy to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan by cutting budgets of major ministries due to IMF conditions. The meeting, led by caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, also approved the transition from Libor to SOFR in electricity contracts. The ECC discussed the protests over the wheat price hike in Gilgit-Baltistan and the burden it would place on the GB government. The Ministry of Finance stated that due to strict IMF conditions, the only option was to make technical supplementary grants by diverting funds from other ministries. The ECC also approved a series of supplementary grants for various projects and initiatives.
