The latest civil defamation case against Donald Trump by E. Jean Carroll has been postponed after the presiding judge delayed the trial due to illness of a juror and a parent of one of Trump’s lawyers. US District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan sent one of the jurors home for a Covid-19 test after feeling unwell. Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba also developed a fever after dining with her parents, at least one of whom has contracted Covid-19. The trial concerns Trump’s denials of Carroll’s claim that he raped her in the mid-1990s. The judge has ruled that the first trial established that Trump defamed and sexually abused Carroll. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing and denied the encounter happened. Trump’s request to testify was opposed by Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan. The judge said he will decide later whether Trump can testify. Last Wednesday, Trump was warned for being disruptive in the courtroom.
