DSP and SHO from Special Investigation Unit suspended following death of suspect in Karachi, Pakistan police custody

The DSP and SHO from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi police were suspended after a suspect died in custody. The suspended officials, Saeed Ahmed Rind and Syed Atique Hussain Shah, are under investigation. The spokesperson for Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) also stated that a constable and a former cop have been arrested in connection with the case. The suspect, Nizamuddin, died in police custody on Jan 13 and an inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident. The investigation revealed that Nizamuddin was apprehended on charges of extortion and brought to the SIU police station for investigation. The case against Nizamuddin was registered under Sections 322, 365, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The statement also mentioned that two individuals have been apprehended and raids are being conducted to arrest others involved. The cause of death is still unknown and samples have been taken for further analysis. The officials reportedly left the suspect’s body in Manghopir for his relatives to retrieve, and there were no apparent signs of violence.
