The upcoming election in Lahore’s NA-122 constituency is set to be a contentious battle between PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique and PTI’s Latif Khosa. However, amidst the political heavyweights, Dr Zeba Waqar of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has emerged as a strong female candidate.

Dr Waqar, a gynaecologist and founder of An Nisa Islamic Institute, is determined to challenge the traditional power dynamics in the constituency. With a significant social media presence and a focus on Islamic teachings, she aims to bring attention to important issues, such as the state of healthcare in the province.

Drawing from her own experiences in the healthcare system, Dr Waqar emphasizes the need for better facilities for women and protection for young female doctors. She advocates for women’s empowerment under Islamic principles while also addressing the alarming increase in harassment cases in Punjab.

Her candidacy brings a fresh perspective to the election, highlighting the urgent need for change in the constituency and the city as a whole.
