The number of dengue cases in Rawalpindi has reached a total of 366, according to Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, the CEO of the District Health Authority. Among these cases, 12 patients are from Potohar town urban area, four from Chaklala Cantonment, two from the Municipal Corporation area, and one each from Kalar Syeda, Tret (Murree), and Wah area.

Out of the total cases, 303 patients have already been discharged after recovering from the disease. Currently, there are 80 patients admitted to the district’s health facilities, of which 63 have tested positive for dengue virus.

Over the past 24 hours, the district administration has taken strict measures to control the outbreak. They have registered 50 FIRs, issued tickets to seven individuals, sealed four premises, and imposed fines totaling Rs 188,500 for violations of dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Dr. Ijaz Ahmad has advised residents to take necessary precautions as September and October are crucial months for the spread of dengue. He particularly emphasized the importance of removing stagnant water, especially after rain, in outdoor and household settings to prevent mosquito breeding.

Dengue virus is transmitted by female mosquitoes, mainly Aedes aegypti and to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus. The symptoms of dengue include a high fever accompanied by severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, and rash.

It is essential for everyone in Rawalpindi to stay vigilant and follow preventive measures to curb the further spread of dengue. By eliminating breeding sites and protecting oneself from mosquito bites, we can collectively fight against this mosquito-borne disease.
