Dead: At Least Two, Hundreds Injured in Gas Explosion in Kenya

A tragic incident occurred in the Embakasi district of Nairobi late on Thursday night as a gas explosion triggered a massive fire. Firefighters worked throughout the night and into the dawn to try and extinguish the flames. The government reported that at least two people had lost their lives and hundreds were injured in the incident.

The fire started in the Embakasi neighborhood when a truck loaded with gas exploded, causing a large fire to spread rapidly. The blaze consumed vehicles, businesses, and residential homes, with many residents still inside. Wesley Kimeto, the police commander in Embakasi, confirmed that at least two people had been killed.

The Kenyan Red Cross provided assistance to 271 people who were taken to health facilities in the capital, while 27 others were treated on site. Firefighters continued their efforts to control the fire as large columns of black smoke rose into the air on the outskirts of the city. The incident has left a devastating impact on the community in Nairobi.
