Cyclone Michaung struck the southern coast of India on Tuesday, causing heavy rains and strong winds. The cyclone made landfall in Andhra Pradesh, bringing winds of up to 110 kilometres per hour. The Indian Meteorological Department warned of torrential rains and said that 8,000 people have been evacuated from affected areas. The cyclone caused at least nine deaths and widespread damage, including the closure of Chennai’s airport. The heavy rains also halted iPhone production at nearby facilities. This is not the first time the region has been hit by devastating floods, as in 2015, floods in Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of at least 290 people.
