Protests have erupted in Senegal following President Macky Sall’s surprise announcement to indefinitely postpone the presidential elections scheduled for this month. Sall cited controversy surrounding the disqualification of some candidates as the reason for the delay. The opposition has accused Sall of attempting to hold on to power, leading to protests in the capital, Dakar.

Senegal is often seen as a stable democracy in Africa, and Sall has stated that he will not run for a third term. However, with no new date set for the presidential election, the future of the country is uncertain.

Nastasya Tay discusses the situation with guests Ndongo Samba Sylla, Aliou Sow, and Alexis Akwagyiram. Sylla is a development economist and head of research and policy at International Development Economics Associates, Sow is the minister of culture and historical heritage of Senegal, and Akwagyiram is the managing editor of Semafor.
