In a recent incident in Lahore, a Christian couple has been taken into custody after a blasphemy case was registered against them for allegedly desecrating a copy of the Holy Quran. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of North Cantonment Police Station.

According to the complainant, Taimur, he was standing at a food shop near the Rangers headquarters when he saw pages being thrown from the roof of a nearby house. He picked up the pages and discovered that they were from the Holy Quran. Taimur approached the house and asked the woman who opened the door about the incident. The woman claimed that her minor daughters and son may have thrown the pages.

However, Taimur insisted on investigating further and the woman allowed him to enter the house. Upon reaching the rooftop, Taimur found a pink bag near the water tank that contained more pages of the Holy Quran. He immediately contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and took possession of the pages.

The North Cantonment Police registered a blasphemy case against the woman and her husband for their alleged involvement in desecrating the holy scripture. The case was filed under Section 295-b of the Pakistan Penal Code. Both suspects have been arrested and are currently awaiting legal proceedings.

This incident occurs in the aftermath of a violent episode on August 16th, where a mob vandalized and set fire to nearly two dozen churches, as well as attacked the houses of Christian community members and the office of an assistant commissioner in Jaranwala. The violence in Jaranwala erupted after some residents claimed to have found desecrated pages of the Holy Quran near a house where two Christian brothers were residing.

These incidents highlight the ongoing tensions and challenges faced by religious minorities in Pakistan. Blasphemy accusations have serious consequences in the country and have often led to violence and persecution. It is crucial to address these issues with sensitivity and promote religious harmony and tolerance.
