A small charter jet disappeared from radar screens over Afghanistan on Saturday evening, prompting a search effort to find the missing aircraft. The Dassault Falcon 10 jet, registered in Russia and carrying six individuals, including four crew members and two passengers, was en route to Moscow from India via Uzbekistan. The plane, manufactured in 1978, is owned by Athletic Group LLC and an unnamed private individual. Rosaviatsia, Russia’s aviation watchdog, is coordinating with authorities in Afghanistan and Tajikistan to locate the missing aircraft. India’s civil aviation authority stated that the plane was not a scheduled commercial flight or an Indian chartered aircraft. Reports of a plane crash in Badakhshan province, northern Afghanistan, have been received, but the exact location of the crash is still unknown. The Hindu Kush mountain range, which features Afghanistan’s highest mountain, Mount Noshaq, at 7,492 meters (24,580 feet), runs through the province.
