Amid an exodus of advertisers from the platform, X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino announced that the social media platform added more than 10 million users in December. Yaccarino did not provide details on how many of these were paying users or how this number compared to an average month. The exodus of major advertisers such as Apple, Disney, IBM, and Lions Gate Entertainment has been attributed to concerns over disinformation and hate speech on the platform, with claims that owner Elon Musk has encouraged anti-Semitism. X has denied these allegations and even filed a lawsuit against Media Matters, a liberal activist group, over a report that claimed major brands’ ads appeared alongside pro-Nazi content. Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion last year, has been vocal about companies fleeing the platform, accusing them of attempting to blackmail him. The New York Times reported that internal documents showed X could lose as much as $75 million in advertising revenue by the end of the year due to declining revenues.
